Playing badminton since he's 11 - motivated by an uncle - and tennis since he's 18 - motivated by not wanting to play cricket (where they would have made him wear long pants!) - he's driven by seeing young people develop into amazing players: starting from club level to national achievers.
Originally trained as a stock and station agent and based in the Maniototo, he went on to manage a farm in Omakau, and returned to Dunedin with a young family to follow his passion of teaching and coaching.
Through his involvement in the national Junior programme for Badminton over a 10 year period, Jim has seen a number of amazing young players grow up and win world titles. He had been a National Junior Selector for just as long.
Over the years, Jim has been heavily involved in junior development in tennis in both clubs and schools. Recently, Jim has been invited to coach in the Otago Junior Development programme run by Otago Tennis at the Edgar Centre.
Jim has been working as the Sports Coordinator at Otago Boys' High School for 14 years.
Jim's favourite past time is taking his dog Tess - a clever Border Collie - for adventure walks on local beaches and hills.
